what is obstacle course racing?

Obstacle course racing (OCR) is a sport in which a team or competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges that are in the form of obstacles.

AM I FIT ENOUGH ?

You should be fit enough to cover the distance required and to overcome the obstacles along the way.

WHAT AGES / CHALLENGES DOES WATERRA CATER FOR?

Yes. WATERRA offers something for all fitness, experience and age levels.

WATERRA “JUNIYA HERO” (Approximately 800m) Lots of challenging and fun obstacles designed for those between 6 and 12 years of age and they can do as many laps as they like! R100.00

WATERRA “HEROES IN TRAINING” ( ages 12+ approximately 5 to 7 km with 20 obstacles ) – A fun-filled challenge for your average Joe ready to take the plunge into OCR racing. You can enter as an Individual or Team (2-6 persons) or in the High School Challenge, a team of 4 with at least 1 member of the opposite sex. R350.00

WATERRA “HEROES FOR A DAY” (ages 18+ approximately 10 to 15 km with 30 obstacles)- For those that are ready for a tougher challenge, have trained hard and are willing to bleed and maybe cry a little. You can enter as Individual or team (2-6 persons). R450.00

CAN WE ENTER AS A TEAM ?

Yes we welcome team entries which is a lot of fun but if you are feeling like a SUPER HERO then you can enter the individual category.

 If you are entering in the High School Challenge, a team of all boys, all girls or a mixed team.

IS The event timed?

The MINI HEROS is not timed, however the other events will be timed.

WHAT TIME WILL I START?

SUPER HEROES (individual) start together on Sunday at 8:30.

WHAT should I WEAR?

The terrain is rugged so make sure you wear suitable shoes and clothes that can get dirty. We encourage teams to wear matching kit and remember if you can’t be first, be outrageous. There are prizes for best dressed team.

ARE THERE PRIZES?

Prizes are awarded to the top 3 finishers in the individual race (SUPERHERO) only, for both the HEROES IN TRAINING and HEROES FOR A DAY category.

Top 3 finishing teams in the school challenge will receive prizes.
The best dressed team will be awarded a prize.
All participants in the Mini hero race will be awarded a medal on completion of 1 lap.

ARE SPECTATORS ALLOWED TO COME and what will they see?

OF COURSE! There are marked spectator routes and viewpoints along the course where spectators can watch the action and take photographs and videos. Spectators may bring seating BUT NO UMBRELLAS OR GAZEBOS. Spectator entry is R30.00 per person and toddlers are free. Although pets are regarded by many as family members they are not permitted at WATERRA events.

WHAT ABOUT PARKING, BAG STORAGE AND SHOWERS?

We provide free secure parking for the first 200 vehicles. Once parking at the venue is full you will have to park at one of our two parking lots (approximately 800 meters from the venue) the parking fee will be R 30 per vehicle, there will be a shuttle running to and from the venue. A map of the parking as well as where to park will be issued once you have entered. Free secure bag storage, and showers are available. Bring your own toiletries and towel.

Is FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS AVAILABLE?

There are water points on the course. There will be food and drink vendors. Visitors may not bring their own refreshments.

HOW DO I ENTER?

Entries are limited to 500 participants per day over all the categories. Entries are processed through ROAG HERE.

How do i register?

You will need to register for your first event. There after your details are saved. Find the event tab on the home page of our site.

ARE THERE REFUNDS?

We do not offer any refunds once paid.

What kind of obstacles can I expect?

Waterra make use of the natural terrain and built obstacles. These obstacles may require the use of muscles you never knew you had.
